March of the Soap Mummy

Would you love to have these mummies marching around your bathroom ?! They are a perfect size for little hands and the kids will want to wash often with these. These soap mummies are made using a mini person silicone mold. This is a great versatile soap mold that can be used to make mini soaps or as embeds in other soap creations. The key to success in making these little mummies is coating them with the soap string. Soap must not be to hot or the soap will spread, let your soap cool to about 120 degrees and work quickly. Also try working in smaller batches of six when stringing the mummies. This will assure your soap doesn’t seize up on you too quickly.

Below are the instructions, we also also have this available as a kit at our store. Makes 24 Mini Mummies Soaps.

Supplies

Mini person silicone mold

5 drops  Black soap colorant

24 oz white melt and pour soap base

1 oz fragrance oil of your choice  (we used Amazing Style, it will keep your soap nice and white)

Fork

Toothpicks

Small spritzer bottle with alcohol

Directions

1. Cut your soap into 1/2 inch chunks.  Put 18 oz into microwave for 1 1/2 minutes. Remove and stir. If there are large chunks left put back in microwave for 10 second intervals until melted.

2. Slowly stir in fragrance oil until well incorporated.

3. Pour into molds and let sit for a least 2 hours until completely solid.

4. Remove from mold and place on non stick surface like was paper (you’ll get lots of soap on it so make sure you can clean it or dispose of it)

5. Melt 1 oz of soap in 5 seconds intervals until melted, remove from microwave.

6. Add your black soap colorant until you get a deep black. Let soap cool slightly (you don’t want your soap to hot.

7. Dip your toothpick into the black soap and make two eyes on your mummy. Let mummy eyes dry completely before going to the next step.

8. Melt 2 more ounces of white soap(about 15 seconds)

9. Wait about 30 seconds for soap to cool slightly

10. Spritz your soap mummies with the alcohol

11. Dip your fork into the soap and working quickly make lines going in different directions across to soap mummies.( you can try to test your soap first on a piece of wax paper to make sure your soap isn’t spreading to much).

12. Repeat steps 9-11 until all mummies are complete.

Have Fun!

Great tutorial, might even have a go

Boo Ghost Soap Tutorial

Are these ghosts too cute to scare you? We think so, all dressed up in their ties and tags we think they are adorable! Make these fun little guys for your Halloween friends.

SOME TIPS BEFORE STARTING:

1.This tutorial uses black soap paint. When you use black soap paint you must let your paint dry for at least 12 hours before handling again.

2.If you plan to wrap them dab some extra clear soap base over the eyes and mouth so they don’t smear onto your wrappers.

3. It will help if you have someone help steady your ghost body while you paint on the eyes and mouth.

Supplies Need

Fine tip paint brush

Fragrance oil or Essential Oil (we recommend Orange Essential Oil, it won’t change the color of your soap)

Black Soap Paint

1lb of white soap base

Half dome silicone soap mold

Droppers

Brownie pop sticks

Small piece of parchment paper

Tags and ties or your other decorative elements to dress up your ghost

Directions

1. Cut your soap into 1/2 chunks. Put three chunks aside.

2. Place the rest of your soap into a microwavable bowl for 1 minute. If there are still large chunks of soap left keep melting soap in microwave in 10 seconds intervals. If there are still small pieces of unmelted soap stir slowly until all soap is melted.

3. Add your fragrance or essential oil to soap. Stir until well incorporated.

4. Pour into mold. Let soap harden at least 3 hours.

ATTACH POP STICK TO GHOST BODY

1. Melt one chunk of soap (about 5-10 seconds) in microwave

2. Insert pointed side of pop stick about halfway into ghost body and remove.

3. Dip your pointed end of pop stick into melted soap making sure the tip is covered with melted soap

4. Put stick back into ghost body and let dry

MAKE THE EYE WHITES

1. Melt the two chunks of soap you put aside previously (microwave about 10-12 seconds)

2. Using a teaspoon drip small pieces of soap on parchment paper, they will make small circles (they won’t be perfectly even)

3. Make 32 drops of soap and let cool (put the leftover soap aside, you will need it)

4. Choose circles that are the same size, you will need 8 pair.

5. If your circles aren’t perfectly round just smooth them out with the tip of your finger.

MAKE AND ATTACH EYES TO GHOSTS

1. After your ghosts are dry remove them from mold.

2. To attach your eye whites melt your left over soap (about 5-10 seconds) and attach eye whites to ghost body with melted soap (like glue)

3. After you’ve attached eyes whites let them sit for 5 minutes

4. With a fine tip paint brush paint on your black eyeballs.

5. Paint your mouth with black paint.

DECORATE YOUR GHOST!

HAPPY SOAPING,

Christine

Hello, thanks for the informative tutorials. Followed you from ETSY and am having fun as I make my way thru everyone’s musings!

Candy Corn Bath Treats

These are so cute! Instead of giving friends Halloween candy this year give them another sweet treat. These little Candy Corn Bath Treats, single use bath salts have a fizzy surprise on top and they smell…so good! Easy and fun to make. They combine both the relaxing pleasure of bath salts and the pop of a skin softening, very fragrant vanilla bath fizz.

This tutorial makes three single use fizzy bath salts.

1. 12 tablespoons of fine bath grain salt

2. 3 tablespoons of vanilla bath fizz

3. 6 Drops of yellow colorant

4. 8 Drops of orange colorant

5. 12 drops of candy corn fragrance oil

6. Droppers

7. 3 mini glass jars

8. Fabric and ribbons to decorate jars.

Divide your salts(not the bath fizz) in half

Add 2-4 drops of yellow colorant to one half of salts mix well with salts until salts become yellow.

Add 2-4 drops of orange colorant mix well until salts become orange. You can add a few extra drops if desired.

Using dropper, add 6 drops of candy corn fragrance oil to each salt. Mix well until fragrance oil is well incorporated into salts.

Spread each color of bath salts out to dry onto two pieces of parchment or wax paper.

Let salts dry about 6 hours.

Set up your 3 glass jars.

Begin to layer salts.

Fill 1/3 of the jars with yellow bath salts.

Layer the orange bath salts, filling 2/3 of the jar.

Finishing the top layer by topping the jar with the Vanilla Bath Fizz.

Then decorate your jar!

To use…just empty contents of jar empty into water! You’ll get lots of fragrant fizz!

Autumn Leaves and Pumpkins Soap Tutorials

My favorites soaps always seem to be the simplest ones to make. This is a very easy recipe but it makes a very elegant soap. When you make these beautiful soaps, you will fill the room with the wonderful aroma of a fresh baked pumpkin pie. The trick is not to add too much nutmeg. You need just enough to give your soap a nice speckling effect.

This recipe is for the 6 soaps. If you want to make fewer soaps just adjust the recipe accordingly.

Ingredients

Spiced Pumpkin Fragrance Oil  1oz

Shea Butter Melt and Pour Soap  24 oz

Autumn Leaves and Pumpkin Soap Mold

Vanilla Color Stabilizer 1oz

Pinch Organic Nutmeg (a small pinch)

1. Cut your soap into 1/2 inch squares and put into a large microwavable measuring cup. Melt on high for 1 minute. Remove. If there a still large chunks microwave in 10 second intervals until soap is melted(or stir away very small chunks).

2. Mix your 1 oz of Spiced Pumpkin Fragrance Oil with your 1 oz of vanilla stabilizer. Stir. Let sit for exactly 2 minutes. Stir into melted soap.

3. Add your pinch of nutmeg (make sure you rub it between your fingers to loosen the grains) and stir slowly into soap. Make sure the nutmeg is well incorporated into soap.

4. Pour into soap molds.

5. Wait until soaps are completely set (about 4 hours) and remove.

Enjoy! Happy Fall !

Christine
